Hydrocarbon Gas Blanketing

FPSO operations CAN be both more environmentally successful, and offer true operational cost savings, and increasing product sales.  How?

Hydrocarbon Gas Blanketing of Cargo Tanks, that's how!

Within cargo tanks on most FPSOs the cargo tanks have an mixture of inert gas, and hydrocarbon gas evaporated from the cargo.  The Hydrocarbon gasses can reach as much as 70% concentration resulting in excess product loss, and potential process upset from gas alarms.

The process is simple, the gas from the process is used to blanket the tanks.  On filling the gas is recovered to the process.  On cargo discharge the gas is bleed from the process.  The benefits are substantial:

  • Potential increase production - gas absorbed into cargo, and losses eliminated

  • Reduced risk of gas alarm induced shutdown

  • Reduced CO2 induced shutdown

  • Environmental benefits reduced emissions

  • Tie in flare Gas Recovery resulting in reduced Flare maintenance costs
